Manager - Sensory & Consumer Science Job

Strategic leader of a team of technical experts that create an understanding of the sensory qualities, consumer acceptability, and consumer-perceived benefits of new and existing beverages in order to drive business success. In this role, the manager will be responsible for leading research projects to guide product development, quality assurance, and packaging initiatives. Specifically, the manager will lead the team to determine appropriate research methodologies, coordinate tests, analyze and interpret data, provide technical recommendations, and report results.
Challenges:
• Educate and influence cross-functional team members so that the most appropriate sensory and consumer science methodologies are implemented.
• Increase team's ability to gain •true• insights from consumers and create a better understanding of their unmet needs to better guide product development.
• Leverage cutting-edge measurement tools and statistical applications to reduce development time and costs while simultaneously improving success rate.
• Balance R&D and Quality priorities against a limited resource pool.
• Provide development and growth opportunities for sensory and consumer scientists.
Requirements: Key Competencies:
• Strong analytical thinker, ability to influence across divisions, ability to take and defend an opposing position.
• Must be able to synthesize data from a number of sources and make recommendations for next steps.
• Skillful Mentor and Strong Team Player.
• Expertise in sensory science including applied psychophysical techniques and descriptive analysis.
• Expertise in consumer science including qualitative (i.e. focus group moderating) and quantitative (i.e. conjoint analysis) approaches.
• In depth understanding of the •marriage• between sensory and consumer science data.
• Conceptual understanding of statistical analyses including significance testing and multivariate techniques such as factor analysis, multiple regression, and response surface methodology.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Individual must be able to effectively communicate sensory, consumer science, and statistical results and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm.
• Flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge & Experience
Minimum:
• Master's Degree in the Behavioral Sciences (e.g., experimental psychology) or Sensory Evaluation with at least 7 years experience conducting sensory and consumer science research in industry or academia.
• Demonstrated leadership ability.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong team player with influencing skills.
Preferred:
• Ph.D. in the Behavioral Sciences or Sensory Evaluation with at least 9 years experience in
industry or academia.
